The Ministry of Agriculture and the World Food Programme open a new chapter of cooperation

On November 20, Minister of Agriculture Han Changfu met with David Beasley, the new executive director of the World Food Program (WFP), and his party in Beijing, and exchanged views on further strengthening and expanding cooperation between the two sides.

 

 

Han Changfu spoke highly of WFP's outstanding achievements in eliminating global hunger and malnutrition, and thanked WFP for its positive contributions to agricultural development and poverty alleviation in poor areas of China. He pointed out that the Ministry of agriculture of China, as the centralized department of WFP cooperation with China, will further strengthen the partnership with WFP, innovate cooperation in poverty alleviation, South South cooperation and human resources, and support the construction of WFP China office into a global center of excellence, and spread the concept, experience and knowledge of China's agricultural development and industrial poverty alleviation to more developing countries.

 

Beasley highly appreciated China's outstanding achievements in poverty reduction and agricultural development since the reform and opening up, and thanked the Chinese government for its strong support to WFP in reducing world poverty and fighting hunger. WFP attaches importance to its cooperative relations with the Chinese government and is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of China to expand cooperation in the fields of poverty reduction, South-South cooperation, knowledge and human resources cooperation.

 

Vice Minister of Agriculture Qu Dongyu accompanied the meeting. During the talks, Qu Dongyu and WFP Chief of Staff Ryan Assad jointly signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the the People's Republic of China Government and the World Food Program on the Young Professional Officials Program. This is the first time in the history of the two sides to carry out such cooperation. In the future, the Chinese government will send More outstanding young talents participate in the work of WFP.
